Master Class Antique Japanese Choshu Dragon Samurai Sword Tsuba Iron Edo Period For Sale

Offering a tsuba from my personal collection. A truly exceptional beautifully executed dragon tsuba from the Choshu school of tsuba making. This dragon tsuba is not your average piece. There are many dragon tsuba that came out of Choshu, not many like this one. It has been meticulously kept. The condition is of the same as the day it was finished. Never mounted either. This makers tsuba are rather hard to come by and are always nice examples. This maker went by I believe 5 Go names, most commonly as Ryu Enshi, or Enri. Another name for him is perhaps Koryuken Shigetsune. He seemed to have made tsuba from the 1820s to the 1850s. He did well for himself making tsuba in Hagi. He was the second son of Okamoto Tomotaka and was adopted by the Yanagi family and worked in Nagato(Choshu). Very intricate and detailed dragon tsuba with waves and clouds. A superior work. More research is required to fully understand what all his Go names were and why he would use a certain Go name for a specific piece. The patina is wonderful.
