Longaberger Basket Co. - Rare Heavyweight Vintage 1998 - Restaurant Ware Mug - Actually Used at the Restaurant Operations at the famous Homestead Deli in Frazeysburg.
Offered is a very rare 1998 side logo heavyweight restaurant mug that was made for actual restaurant operations at the famous Longaberger basket company Heartland Homestead park in Frazeysburg, Ohio, which was called the Heartland Deli.
I have collected high-end restaurant ware and rare restaurant mugs now for many years. This particular heavyweight pattern made by Sterling China for Longaberger's Heartland Deli was not produced for long, as well as, not that many mugs were made; with even fewer remaining today.
These were not available for retail purchase or sold; rather, they were actually made by Sterling China Co. in the late 1990's (the twilight for quality restaurant ware being made like this in the U.S.) for serving hot coffee, hot tea, and hot chocolate to diners at the actual Heartland restaurant in Frazeysburg, Ohio.
It measures 3 1/4" tall by 4 3/4" wide (from the side of the handle across to the opposite side of the top rim). It was made by the Sterling China Co. in Wellsville, Ohio, between April and June of 1998 with the datecode of W-6 marked on the bottom.
This mug is the heavyweight type vintage hotel, steamship, restaurant, and lunch counter - hamburger stand china. Again, it was not sold to the public; rather, it was actual restaurant ware used at Longaberger's lunch room deli restaurant at Frazeysburg.
Sterling itself went out of business near Christmas of 2003. Longaberger at Newark, Ohio, lasted until circa 2018 with the Heartland park where this mug was made and used closing circa 2016. Again, the mug was made in 1998 and it appears there was only one order placed with Sterling for this most stunning design on an actual vintage style heavyweight restaurant mug.
The Longaberger "Heartland Deli" was a specialty restaurant and food counter located at Longaberger Homestead, the company’s former 30-acre corporate attraction and shopping park in Frazeysburg, Ohio.The restaurant was there to provide dining services to the many tourists and collectors who visited the flagship property during the height of the basket-weaving company's popularity in the 1990s and early 2000s.
The Deli operated as a traditional, country-style deli offering sandwiches, fresh salads, soups, and specialized baked goods, along with, fresh hot coffee, hot tea, and even hot chocolate.Many of the foods, pies, and breads were displayed, served, or styled around classic Longaberger Woven Traditions pottery and baskets.
The Heartland Deli directly complemented the Longaberger Heartland Collection, which was one of the company's most famous and longest running regular catalog series. The collection featured household kitchen and serving baskets, such as, the Heartland Bakery Baset, the Heartland Muffin Basket, and the Heartland Cracker Basket.
Though this mug is newer than most similar type mugs that I like from the 1920's to the 1940's, this mug is no less rarer. In the same time period, I would rank this mug just as rare as some of the highly sought after limited production runs of the same late 1990's era Starbucks restaurant style mugs.
The mug has no cracks, no chips, and only light usage. It displays wonderfully, as well as, it could even be used for daily usage. Please study the photos and feel free to message any questions.
