The locomotive in the image served the island ofMaui,Hawaii, as part of the Lahaina, Kaanapali & Pacific Railroad, also known asthe Sugar Cane Train.This 3-foot narrow-gauge tourist railway ran for 6miles between Lahaina and the Kaanapali resort area.Although it ceasedfull operations in 2014, it ran some holiday trains in late 2018. The railway\'shistory dates back to a working sugar cane railway that shut down in 1953, withthe tourist railway operating from 1969 until its closure.Recent reportsindicate efforts to revive the Sugar Cane Train, though its current operationalstatus is uncertain, especially considering the 2023 wildfires in Lahaina.
