Provenance:

I pursued this acquisition over the course of two years. Some time ago, I contacted the National Trust to enquire whether they held any stored materials or remnants from John Lennon’s childhood home. My initial attempt was unsuccessful.

A year later, I tried again and received a simple reply: “No, we do not hold any such materials.” However, a few days later, I was contacted via a personal email account. The individual explained that he had been present during renovation works at the property and had given some pieces of wood and carpet to a friend. He offered to check whether these items were still in his possession.

Weeks later, he confirmed that an irregular fragment of the carpet had indeed been retained. I immediately arranged its purchase.

While the exact position within the house cannot be confirmed, the fragments are believed to have originated from areas beneath the skirting boards, possibly near the fireplace or along interior corridors.

The original piece has been carefully divided, with a larger section retained, and the remaining material cut into just ten 10 x 10 cm fragments—making each display a genuinely rare and collectible item.
