Vintage Japanese Tokoname Ware Shishi Guardian Lion Statue by Eiju
A striking large Japanese ceramic Shishi (guardian lion) statue made in the traditional Tokoname ware style.
This piece depicts a powerful Shishi resting its paw on a decorative ball featuring an elaborate gold-tone phoenix motif.
The deep black and dark reddish-brown glaze, expressive face, flowing mane and dramatically sculpted tail give the piece a strong presence from every angle.
The statue is attributed to Eiju (栄寿) and features a distinctive right-facing pose.
