1543–1590: Painter of the Oda-Toyotomi period.Born on January 13, Tenbun 12. Eldest son of Kano Shōei. Studied under his grandfather, Motonobu. In Eiroku 9, he created fusuma paintings for the Jūkō-in hall at Daitoku-ji Temple. He also created wall paintings for Oda Nobunaga’s Azuchi Castle, Toyotomi Hideyoshi’s Osaka Castle, and the Jurakudai Palace. His magnificent and dynamic style ushered in the golden age of the Kano school. He died on September 14, Tenshō 18. He was 48 years old. His given name was Shunobu, and he was commonly known as Genjirō. His works include the “Folding Screens Depicting the City and Suburbs of Kyoto,” “Portraits of Xu You and Su Fu,” and the “Folding Screens Depicting Chinese Paintings大和絵Yamato-e 大江山戮鬼図“The Slaying of the Demons at Oeyama”堀川夜討之図“The Night Raid on Horikawa”
