JOSEFUS – Josefus+ Dead Man. Red Fox RF 608. French release. FACTORY SEALED NEW CD. The Josefusalbum was issued on Mainstream Records in the latter half of 1970. The Dead Man album, recorded in early 1970,was first issued on the Hookah label prior to their signing to MainstreamRecords. This edition issued in 2001.

DESCRIPTION: Josefusoriginated in Houston, Texas in summer of 1969. Dead Man - their debut LP was recorded on March 30, 1970 andreleased in June by the small local Hookah label. The music here is veryintense acid, fuzzy, bluesy hard rock with suberb guitar playing and strong,distinctive vocals. This is absoluteley essential gem of proto-doom-stoner rockwith the title track being over 17 minutes of pure doom and gloom. The albumreceived extensive airplay and the whole 3000 copies were sold very quickly.Today the original vinyl pressing in top condition fetches nearly $1000. As aresult the band was signed by the prestigious Mainstream Records. In Autumn1970 the band (having drug-related internal problems) quickly recorded their2nd, self-titled, album. Perhaps not as powerful and sinister as their debut,but shows the band’s improved musicianship and tightness that makes this setwell worth owning and still sounds fresh and heavy. Soon after Josefus split,two band members formed Stone Axe - an excellent band that issued just one veryheavy and very expressive privately pressed single in 1971. Of course this wasnot the final curtain call for the band, but that lies beyond the scope of thisrelease. Highly recommended!

AllCDs come sealed in standard jewel cases and are US releases unless notedotherwise. mini-jackets, digi-paks, and variable (non-standard) packaging willalso be noted. Any item that does not come sealed or include an outer sleevewill be placed inside of an outer sleeve at the time it is received by me.All items that do not come sealed in an outer packaging wrap are inspected byme prior to shipping. It is not unusual to find small/tiny imperfections on theplay side of the CD disc, especially on European manufactured CDs; these smallimperfections do not affect the playback of the disc. Also an unsealed jewelcase may show light signs of warehouse/transit storage wear on the outersurface of the jewel case. If an unsealed jewel case is received by me broken,it will be replaced with a new jewel case before shipping; sealed CDs receivedwith minor cracked/damaged jewel cases will be noted as such in the item’sdescription and will be shipped as received.

NEWCD: This item is new and unplayed, but wasreceived from a supplier without being shrink wrapped or cellophane wrapped;more common on imports but also many of the smaller independent US labels donot seal their CDs; some have it both ways (for which I have no prior knowledgeof or choice when placing my orders). Other companies use resealable clearouter sleeves which are used on some import and domestic releases. If I receivean item this way it will be shipped as I received it and not opened up. Itemsreceived unwrapped are placed inside of a resealable clear outer mylar sleeveat the time they are received.
