Raymond Matthews Brown (October 13, 1926– July 2, 2002) was an American jazz doublebassist, known for his extensive work with Oscar Peterson and Ella Fitzgerald.He was also a founding member of the group that would later develop into the ModernJazz Quartet.
SuperBass is a 1997 album by Ray Brown with Christian McBride and JohnClayton, recorded live at Sculler's. The AllMusic review states: "The ideaof a bass trio on records probably would have been unthinkable in the primitivedays of recording when Brown was coming up, but Telarc's fabulously deep yetclear engineering makes it seem like a natural thing to do. Whether pizzicatoor bowed, whether taking the melodic solo or plunking down the 4/4 bottom line,all three perform with amazing panache, taste, humor, lack of ego, and thesheer joy of talking to and against each other beneath the musical staff."
