Vintage 80's Japanese New Year Car Decoration Shimekazari Shinto Ornament NIB. In Japan, it is a Shinto-rooted tradition to place sacred rope arrangements called shimekazari on the front grilles or rearview mirrors of vehicles during the New Year. They serve to purify the vehicle, ward off evil spirits, and invite the Toshigami (New Year Gods) to protect the drivers and passengers for a safe year ahead. This ornament was brought back by my Uncle from Japan in 1988. New In Box, it has never been used or displayed. Beautiful color and shine. The box shows signs of wear from being moved from place to place but it has never been opened until I took the photos. Still wired to the display box (shown in photos) I have provided photos of measurements as well. Awesome piece of Japanese history and culture. It has been safely packaged and is ready to ship.
