Influential architectural guide and treatise written by the self-taught American builder and architect Frazier Forman Peters. Peters originally intended to be a chemist and a farmer, but encountering nothing but rocky soil on his property led him to innovate. Influenced heavily by the experimental masonry techniques of architect Ernest Flagg, Peters developed a streamlined, highly cost-effective method for building with native fieldstone and concrete.
Peters argues against the prevailing 1930s notion that stone houses were an unattainable luxury reserved only for the ultra-wealthy. Instead, he presents stone as a highly functional, sustainable, and economically viable material for the average suburban American home. Peters went on to build over 200 distinct stone homes spanning from Maine to Virginia, leaving a massive architectural footprint in Westport and Darien, Connecticut.
