A classic piece of American railroad history — an early Hamilton Grade 992 Model 1 railroad pocket watch, movement serial 749219, dating to approximately 1909.
The Hamilton 992 became one of the best-known American railroad watches, built for the accuracy and reliability demanded of railroad service. This early example features the beautifully finished and highly decorated movement that gives these first-generation 992s so much visual appeal.

The dial presents nicely overall, with strong, clear numerals and attractive red five-minute markings. Some age-related blemishes and surface marks are visible under close inspection and magnification. The crystal has some minor scratches consistent with age and use. The movement is exceptionally attractive and remains one of the highlights of this watch.
⏱️ Running / Timekeeping:
I wound and set the watch and personally observed it for approximately 24 hours. It kept excellent time during that period. No long-term accuracy testing has been performed, and recent service history is unknown.
The gold-filled case shows considerable honest wear from age and use, particularly to the back, including scratches, finish wear and areas of gold-fill loss. I have photographed the case thoroughly so its condition can be evaluated accurately. Despite the exterior wear, the watch remains a handsome and historically significant early Hamilton railroad piece.
