Topps issued Venezuelan baseball cards between 1959 and 1968 to capitalize on the country's love for baseball. Produced in partnership with a local printer named Benco C.A., these sets are much rarer than their U.S. counterparts and highly sought after by collectors.
Venezuelan cards were printed on darker, rougher cardboard without the glossy finish of standard U.S. Topps cards. They were also slightly smaller and printed in much lower quantities.
For these reasons, it is extremely difficult to find these cards in good condition. Most copies have substantial paper loss and/or glue residue on the back due to having been glued in albums. This particular copy is in exceptional condition, with no such damage on the back. Only 2 copies have received a grade of PSA 2, with just 6 copies receiving grades higher than that.
