Grateful Dead Dave's Picks Volume 9 - Missoula MT 5/14/74 - 3CD - Wall of Sound Era - OOP
Grateful Dead: Dave's Picks Volume 9, 3-CD live archival set, catalog #R2-541133, released February 1, 2014 by Grateful Dead Productions/Rhino. Excellent condition.
This individually-numbered, limited-edition set (limited to 14,000 copies, now out of print) documents the Grateful Dead's complete May 14, 1974 performance at Harry Adams Field House, University of Montana, Missoula — the only concert the band ever played in the state of Montana. Recorded during the legendary "Wall of Sound" era, this show captures the band operating at a creative peak, with Jerry Garcia's wah-wah guitar and Keith Godchaux's Fender Rhodes pushing into free-funk territory. Highlights include a full "Weather Report Suite" leading into a soaring 26-minute "Dark Star" and a graceful "China Doll," alongside a 20-minute "Playing in the Band." Mastered to HDCD specs by Jeffrey Norman, housed in a tri-fold digipak made from 100% recycled/PCW materials, with a booklet featuring photos and a historical essay.
