This is a vintage 1956 original US mono first edition release of \"Midnight on Cloud 69,\" split between stellar tracks from the George Shearing Quintet (Side A) and the Red Norvo Trio featuring Charles Mingus and Tal Farlow (Side B). This historical session was mastered by the legendary recording engineer Rudy Van Gelder, as explicitly credited on the rear cover. The record features the highly sought-after original Savoy Records blood red center labels with silver typography and the \"Long Playing Microgroove\" rim text. It comes housed in its original heavy cardboard single-pocket jacket with iconic front cover photography by Berk a. Costello.
Condition Grading:Visual grade only, not play-tested.
- Vinyl Record: Very Good (VG). The vinyl retains a brilliant structural gloss and clean mirror sheen across both sides under examination light. There are a few light, non-feelable handling hairlines and minor cosmetic paper scuffs from the inner sleeve, but no deep scratches or gray groove wear. The labels are bold and vibrant with only faint spindle trails near the center holes.- Outer Jacket: Good (G). The jacket remains structurally unified but shows typical wear for a mid-1950s release. There is prominent edge-wear and corner chipping, with light clear tape reinforcement along portions of the top and bottom seams. The front and back slicks show moderate surface scuffing, age-discoloration/toning, and ring wear, but all print and credits remain fully readable.
