In 1929 all King George coins are withdrawn by law. By theDecree of 7.8.1930 it was decided that new coins of 5-, 10-, and 20-drachmashould be minted. The 5-drachma coins were made of nickel, and, on the occasionof the 100th anniversary since the circulation of Kapodistrias\' coins, bore thephoenix theme designed by Michael Axelos and engraved by Kruger Gray. The10-drachma and 20-drachma coins were made of 500%o silver contentalloy. The first bore the head of Demeter on the obverse and a barley plant(borrowed from a Delphic Amphictyony stater) on the reverse; the second onesbore the head of Poseidon on the obverse and a triteme (taken from a Macedoniantetradrachm) on the reverse. The abovementioned coins were minted in the LondonMint, except a small quantity of 5-drachma coins that were minted in the BrusselsMint. These lasts coins are distinguished from their 1926-dated counterparts bythe letter B above the year of minting.
