In 1860 Heinrich Bodemer established his prestigious silversmith factory in Chemnitz, Germany. In 1888 german silversmith standards were changed to require the national crescent moon and crown in addition or instead of the traditional city guild stamp. This piece doesn\'t include that stamp, dating it between 1860 and 1888.
This serving dish weighs 830.64 grams, or 26.71 Troy ounces. At 80% purity it contains 21.36 troy ounces of pure silver.
Please see photos for scratches. The lid has a few areas where the silver has rubbed off, and there are a few small dents on one side of the dish in both the lid and the bottom.
As silver prices fluctuate, I\'m hoping to find a collector who would display this wonderfully intact piece of German silversmithing history rather than sell it to be destroyed for the value of the precious metal.
