Fine KPM Berlin porcelain painting “Grazieuse,” after a painting by the Italian-French artist Angelo Asti, probably painted by Franz Wagner, circa 1890–1900.
The oval porcelain plaque depicts the bust of a young woman with long, wavy hair and a red garment against a dark green background. The exceptionally fine painting is distinguished by the soft transitions in the complexion, the detailed rendering of the hair, and the vivid color of the garment.
The subject is inscribed by hand on the reverse, “Grazieuse nach Asti” (“Grazieuse after Asti”). It is based on a work by the Italian-French painter Angelo Asti (1847–1903). The porcelain painting is probably attributable to the Viennese porcelain painter Franz Wagner, who is documented as active between 1894 and 1908.
The reverse bears an impressed KPM scepter mark, further impressed or incised numbers, and an old collection label handwritten with the number “3668.”
The plaque is set in an elaborate pierced and gilded wood and composition frame with raised rocaille and foliage decoration.
