Elvis Presley — Self Titled Debut LP | RCA Victor LPM-1254 (Mono, 1956)
Early 1956 Indianapolis Pressing | Original Pink & Green Cover
A cornerstone of rock \'n\' roll history: a genuine 1956 U.S. mono pressing of Elvis Presley\'s debut album. I play-tested this one twice, partly because it needed verifying and partly because hearing it feels like hearing history — it\'s hard not to imagine being a teenager in 1956 discovering this for the first time.
PRESSING DETAILS
This copy was pressed at the RCA Indianapolis plant in 1956, identified by the stamped G2PP matrices in the dead wax. It is an early-period pressing, not a later reissue:
Original pink and green front cover lettering (later reissues use a brighter neon green)
No \"RE\" on the back cover
Original \"Long Play\" RCA Victor labels, dog on top
Side 2 credits \"Just Because\" to Bob Shelton, Joe Shelton and Sid Robin — the corrected credit. The very earliest 1S/1S run mistakenly listed it as P.D. (Public Domain) before the songwriters\' lawyers had it fixed, so this is an early 1956 pressing from the corrected run rather than the initial state.
CONDITION
Vinyl: VG+
Glossy with visible surface scuffs and light marks consistent with age. No deep feelable scratches. Play-tested and sounds excellent for a 70-year-old record — plays through with no skips. Expect some occasional surface noise, most noticeable on the ballads, but minor. Labels are clean with no writing or stickers; typical spindle marks, and one light needle scratch on Side 2 (see photos).
Jacket: Fair
The legendary pink and green image still presents beautifully. Significant edge wear, corner dings and ring wear throughout. Noticeable seam splits and spine wear — the jacket is holding together but is delicate. A faint period-owner name (\"Brenda...\", partially legible) is written near the top edge of the front cover in light pen or pencil — see photos. Record will be shipped in a proper LP mailer with the vinyl packed outside the jacket to help prevent further seam damage. Protective outer and inner sleeves included.
