Original 19th-century Victorian family photograph album containing an assortment of tintype/ferrotype portraits and at least one card-mounted carte de visite. One photograph bears the studio imprint of J. G. Brittingham, Photographer, 111 Fifth Street, Springfield, Illinois.
The album appears to date primarily from the 1860s through 1880s and includes individual men and women, couples, group portraits and full-length studio images. Most of the photographs are original images made on thin metal plates commonly known as tintypes.
Album measures approximately 4 inches wide by 5 inches tall. Exact number and type of photographs should be confirmed from the photographs and inventory count.
The album is in heavily worn antique condition. The leather cover has extensive surface loss, edge wear, tears and separation. Pages and mounts are worn, torn, loose and incomplete. Photographs show varying degrees of scratches, oxidation, staining, fading, bends, corner wear and image loss. Some photographs are loose and some album openings may be empty. No subjects have been positively identified.
Sold as an original historical photographic collection in as-found condition. No cleaning or restoration has been attempted. Please review every photograph carefully.
