Chinese Hand-Painted Famille Verte Porcelain Vase – Likely Late Qing / Early 20th Century
Substantial Chinese porcelain vase measuring approximately 10 1/2 inches tall and 7 1/2 inches at its widest point, extensively decorated with hand-painted polychrome overglaze enamels in the famille verte tradition.
The vase features detailed figural scenes depicting traditional Chinese officials/scholars and attendants within architectural and garden settings. The surrounding decoration incorporates numerous traditional Chinese auspicious motifs, including cash coins, fruit/peach-form medallions, foliage and colorful geometric borders.
The decoration includes traditional auspicious Chinese characters associated with Fu, Lu, Shou and Xi, representing good fortune, prosperity/status, longevity and happiness. Numerous individually painted Chinese cash-coin motifs further reinforce the prosperity and good-fortune theme.
The decoration is hand painted rather than transfer printed. Individual brush strokes, variations in outlining and color application, enamel pooling and raised/textured overglaze enamels are visible throughout. The palette includes characteristic greens, iron red, yellow, blue, aubergine/purple and dark outlining.
The vase is unmarked. The underside features a broad recessed base and substantial foot showing considerable age-related darkening, residue and wear. Potting/finishing marks and firing irregularities are visible on the underside.
Based on the form, traditional decoration, hand-painted overglaze enamels, foot construction and apparent age, this vase appears likely to date to the late Qing dynasty/early 20th century, possibly circa 1890–1920. The piece is unmarked and has not been independently authenticated; therefore, the exact age and period are not guaranteed. Condition
Beautiful antique/vintage condition with age-related surface wear, staining/soiling, enamel wear and glaze/firing irregularities. The underside and foot exhibit darkened residue and wear. Wear is visible around the mouth rim. No major chips, cracks or repairs have been observed.
