Description: This sale is for the Charles Raymond 1861 Patent \"Improved Family\" Sewing Machine w/ Cast Iron Aux. Base pictured. The overall condition is very nice with lots of original finish and decorations. The wooden handle that has been glued. The main wheel has a groove to run by belt as well. This interesting antique sewing machine is equipped with an original removable cast iron auxiliary base. The base is marked inside with an identifying logo in the casting. This c. 1860s - 1870s antique sewing machine is marked on the sew plate Chas Raymond along with an 1860s patent date. The top bar is marked P. Frank Liverpool London, the UK distributer. This style antique sewing machine is typically called a New England and there are numerous similar looking machines known. Most have no maker info and are considered knockoffs. A more common English marketed version can be found marked Weir, another English agent or distributer for a similar \"New England\" style sewing machine.
