Charles Marion Russell (1864–1926), known as "the Cowboy Artist," was an American painter and sculptor who became the preeminent visual chronicler of the Old West. Leaving formal education at sixteen to work on Montana ranches, Russell gained firsthand experience essential to his artistic authenticity. His intimate knowledge of cowboys, Native Americans, and landscape informed thousands of paintings and sculptures of the American West and Alberta, Canada. Beginning in 1890, Russell focused extensively on the buffalo hunt theme, producing more than fifty such works. Influenced by historical accounts and conversations with Blackfoot elders, he created iconic works including Buffalo Hunt, The Death Song of Lone Wolf, and In the Enemy's Country that captured the drama of frontier experience. His prolific career established him as the definitive artistic voice of the American West, with works preserved in the C. M. Russell Museum Complex in Great Falls, Montana.

Rolled Premium Matte Canvas is our standard matte canvas with a natural artist-grade finish. Ships with a 2" white border for stretching, gallery edge (Extra image on sides) is available on request please message me for details.
