Carl Zeiss Jena DDR Sonnar 180mm f/2.8 – professionally adapted to Leica M by Skyllaney Opto-Mechanics

Vintage Carl Zeiss Jena DDR 180mm f/2.8 Sonnar telephoto lens, serial number 9382781, in the distinctive “Zebra” style.

I purchased this lens on in February 2023 from Skyllaney Opto-Mechanics in Scotland, specialists in restoration, repair and conversion of rangefinder lenses. The original listing described it as:

“Carl Zeiss Jena 180mm f/2.8 Sonnar Lens – Adapted to Leica M.”

I paid $550 for the lens at that time. A photograph of my original purchase information is included for provenance.

This is not simply a loose Pentacon Six/SLR version with an inexpensive adapter attached; it was sold to me by Skyllaney as a Leica M-adapted lens.

The Carl Zeiss Jena 180mm f/2.8 Sonnar is a substantial East German manual-focus telephoto lens using the classic Sonnar optical design. Standard versions of this lens were produced for several camera systems and are well known among vintage-lens users for their rendering and fast f/2.8 aperture.

Condition: Used vintage condition with normal cosmetic signs of age and use. Please examine the detailed photographs for cosmetic and optical condition.

Focus operates smoothly. Aperture operates through its range and blades appear clean.

I have not recently used this lens photographically, so I am not making guarantees beyond the mechanical observations stated above. It is being sold exactly as photographed.
