Art Nouveau Egyptian Revival Czech Glass Scarab Brooch-Broken Clasp-1890s-1910 For Sale

A unique Art Nouveau piece of Egyptian Revival featuring a beautiful Czech glass scarab mimicking Egyptian turquoise. The style of the piece bares similarities to prominent Art Nouveau artists such as Rene Lalique and Lucien Gaillard. Which is not to say it was created by either but that its attributes place it firmly in the 1890-1910 era pre-dating Art Deco and the discovery of King Tut. The brooch features two prominent Art Nouveau nature themes of thistles and scarabs. The experimentation with metal and enamel also appears in the traces of red on the thistles, blue and orange on the wings, and blue and red on the leaves. The coloration of the metal and the patina appear to be bronze which Art Nouveau artists were more willing to utilize than later artists. Their tendency to feature an art glass piece in their jewelry manifests here in a very intentional mimic of an ancient Egyptian turquoise scarab in a beautiful swirl of light and darker blues with strands of brown. The era\'s attention to detail can be seen in both the metal and glass work of this piece. The clasp of the brooch is broken but it does have a small ring on the end of the scarab\'s feet (perhaps where something used to dangle) that could be turned into a necklace. There is a very small chip as pictured above in the scarab but it does not make it loose, is hard to see from a distance, and showcases that it is glass and not carved from stone. Not in perfect condition and bears no artist mark but it is still a stunning example of Art Nouveau that has individual charm. Packaged with great care when shipping.
