This matched pair of antique Art Deco \"Nutbird\" bookends is a stunning, whimsical tribute to the iconic 1920s/1930s luxury novelty lines produced by Henry Howell & Co. for Alfred Dunhill. Standing 5.5 inches total height (with 4.5\" x 3.5\" solid dark hardwood bases), each bird features a meticulously hand-carved wooden head with fully intact multi-ring glass eyes, a beautifully marbled translucent olive-green horn-style beak, and a body expertly turned from natural coquilla nut. One bird showcases an extraordinary, vibrant honey-amber natural kernel patch running down its flank, creating a spectacular organic contrast between the pair. Showing an authentic aged satin patina with stable, natural surface crazing typical of century-old organic materials, this pair is in excellent antique condition with no chips or structural damage, and one base proudly retains its vintage estate/dealer inventory label (\"APTH N-17\") on the raw underside.
