Beautiful matching pair of vintage Bessie Pease Gutmann baby prints, presented in coordinating ornate gold-tone/scalloped frames with delicate raised floral and rose detailing.The pair features two of Gutmann’s classic sentimental infant images:* “Awakening” — circa 1920, 15.5-inch sculpted frame, Jordan Marsh label.
* “A Little Bit of Heaven” — circa 1920, also in a 15.5-inch sculpted frame with the Jordan Marsh label. Both prints bear the Bessie Pease Gutmann signature within the artwork.Especially noteworthy, one of the original backings retains a vintage label reading:“Made Exclusively for Jordan Marsh Company.”This is a wonderful New England department-store connection and helps add provenance and period character to the pair.The unusual coordinating frames are a standout feature themselves, with a softly scalloped shape, antiqued gold-tone finish and molded floral/rose decoration. Both prints and frames show visible signs of age and use. The prints have overall toning/discoloration and fading consistent with age, along with areas of spotting/foxing and surface imperfections. The ornate frames show considerable wear, including paint/finish loss, chipping, scuffs, scratches and areas of exposed underlying material, especially around the inner edges.Despite the wear, both pieces remain intact and display nicely as authentic vintage décor.
