Antique Round Tortoiseshell-Style Spectacles with Finger Loop & Original Case
Circa 1910s–1920s
A wonderful surviving piece of early 20th-century optical history, these antique round spectacles feature large circular glass lenses surrounded by dark tortoiseshell-patterned rims, slender metal components and an unusual finger loop/ring incorporated into one side of the frame.
The glasses retain their old prescription lenses and are accompanied by their original fitted hard eyeglass case, which shows substantial age and character.
Inside the case is an especially interesting piece of provenance: an old paper identification/prescription label bearing the name Walter Fairlender and a Miami, Florida address, along with handwritten information. The front interior of the case also retains faded gold lettering from an optical company with Cincinnati and Dayton, Ohio visible.
These details give the set a wonderful time-capsule quality and make it particularly attractive for collectors of antique eyewear, optometry memorabilia, medical history and early 20th-century accessories.
