The photograph is believed to depict Sussex Chemical Company No. 2 of Newton, New Jersey, which was organized in the late 19th century. Based on the horse-drawn firefighting equipment and photographic style, the image appears to date to approximately the late 1890s–early 1900s. Identification and exact date are not guaranteed, as the photograph has no markings on the reverse.

This is an original-looking period photograph with excellent detail, including the horses, early firefighting apparatus, ladders, lanterns, firehouse and surrounding buildings.
Condition: Antique condition with significant age-related wear, including staining/spotting, discoloration, creasing, edge and corner wear, small tears/losses and surface wear as shown. No restoration has been attempted.
