Antique English Oak Coffer – Elaborately Carved Front & Paneled Lid
Exceptional antique carved oak coffer/chest featuring an extensively decorated front and paneled hinged lid.
The front consists of three large recessed panels, each decorated with a carved diamond motif surrounding a central floral/rosette design. Above the panels is an elaborate carved foliate frieze with repeating decorative elements and a central brass escutcheon. The substantial lid is constructed with multiple raised panels and molded rails.
The chest has a wonderfully aged appearance with deep, naturally developed color and patina throughout. The carved decoration, construction and overall form are characteristic of early English oak coffers.
