Antique W. Adams & Sons covered sugar bowl in the Athens pattern, registered January 3, 1849. The black and mulberry transfer depicts classical ruins, fountains, figures and swans, with areas of cobalt blue flowing throughout. This rare octagonal serving piece retains its original domed lid. The lid has a round puncture hole and a possible finial repair with adhesive. Please see up close photo. The side handles have some scuffs and little surface chips.
Additional crazing, discoloration and worn areas are present from age. There is one mature chip along the underside of the upper area outer rim that is black in color. Please refer to photos for reference. 🤍
