Antique Victorian Rolled Gold Albert Watch Chain with Tassel Fob
A beautiful and unusual antique Victorian Albert pocket watch chain, attributed to Kollmar & Jourdan, Pforzheim, Germany, featuring a distinctive geometric link construction and an impressive original woven-chain tassel fob.
The chain measures approximately 13 cm (5.12 inches) in length and has a substantial,decorative appearance despite its relatively compact size.
Design & Construction
The chain is constructed from a repeating geometric pattern of large round links joined by pairedrectangular bar-style links. This creates a bold architectural appearance typical of high-qualitylate 19th to early 20th century watch-chain design.
At one end is an antique watch-chain clasp, while the opposite end carries the most striking feature ofthe piece – a large and elaborate tassel fob.
The tassel is formed from numerous individually woven, flexible metal-chain strands. Each strand has afine herringbone / wheat-chain appearance and terminates in a small rounded bead. The strands emergefrom an ornate cylindrical cap decorated with finely ribbed and textured borders.
The combination of the geometric Albert chain and the richly constructed tassel gives this piece aparticularly decorative Victorian appearance and makes it an attractive accessory for an antiquepocket watch as well as a collectible watch-chain fob in its own right.
