Antique children’s book titled The Youngster, published by McLoughlin Bros., New York.
This charming antique book features an illustrated color cover showing children outdoors and contains illustrated children’s poems, songs, and stories. Interior pages include “Three Little Songs,” “My Little Pony,” “Cock-a-Doodle-Doo,” “So Happy,” “The Squirrel,” and other children’s verses.
The book has a particularly interesting handwritten inscription dated Friday, Aug. 28, 1903, reading “For Bert Taylor, from his cousin Nina,” making this a wonderful piece of early 20th-century children’s book history.
Condition:
* Antique/vintage condition with significant age-related wear
* Heavy wear, rubbing, discoloration and soiling to the covers
* Spine is heavily worn and deteriorated, with fraying and exposed areas
* Corners and edges are worn
* Pages have considerable age spotting, foxing and discoloration
* Some pages show tears, staining and general wear
* Missing the first two pages
* Missing pages 17–32
* Remaining pages are present as shown, with the book continuing through at least page 96
* Writing/inscription and other pencil markings are present
* Binding is fragile and pages should be handled carefully
