Very unusual vintage stoneware insulated water jug/cooler liner with its original multi-piece metal screw closure.
This heavy utilitarian vessel appears to have originally served as the stoneware/ceramic inner liner of an insulated water or beverage cooler, likely housed inside a separate metal exterior casing that is no longer present. The interior is glazed while the exterior stoneware is unfinished, consistent with a liner that was not intended to be exposed.
The most interesting feature is the substantial metal neck and closure assembly. It includes a threaded metal collar permanently fitted around the stoneware neck, a removable inner metal disk/stopper, and a large screw-on outer metal cap. The outer cap retains its unusual interior metal construction as shown in the photos.
Approximately 7" in diameter, approximately 9" tall at the vessel/neck area and nearly 11" tall overall with the metal closure in place.
No maker's mark has been located. Exact manufacturer and date are unknown. Similar stoneware-lined insulated water and beverage jugs were produced during the early-to-mid 20th century.
Vintage/antique pre-owned condition with substantial age-related wear, discoloration, surface marks, oxidation/patina and wear to the metal components. Metal collar shows age and separation/cracking in areas as photographed. Exterior stoneware has expected scuffs, marks and imperfections. The original exterior insulating/carrying casing, if applicable, is not present. Please review all photographs carefully as they are an important part of the condition description.
