Circa: 1900This remarkable piece was handwoven in the Caucasus mountains by nomadic tribes well over 120 years ago. The piece is in remarkable condition with all ends and sides original absent of any restorations. There is some wear and oxidation that shows in the field of the rug as well as some reweaving in the field. All dyes and wool used in this rug were naturally sourced by hand by the Shirvan tribe that wove the rug. The use of natural dyes and hand spun wool makes both the color and structure of the piece highly durable. The charming quality of the design is present throughout but truly shines in the brilliant composition of the borders where the color is irregular, sporadically transitioning between yellow and red complimentary of the intricate and funky design. The size is remarkable possessing great utility as a hallway runner adding to the rarity of the piece whereas most rugs from this region and time period are wider and shorter.
