Beautiful and highly decorative French porcelain cup and matching saucer featuring an elegant château/architectural scene, rich gold gilding and a distinctive hand-painted red mark to the underside reading “M. Imp.le de Sèvres.”
The mark refers to the Manufacture Impériale de Sèvres (Imperial Manufacture of Sèvres) and is associated with French porcelain produced during the Napoleonic/Imperial period. Similar marks are documented on Sèvres pieces dating to the early 19th century.The cup has a beautiful cylindrical form with an ornate curved handle and extensive gilt decoration. The central scenic panel depicts a grand château or French architectural residence in sepia/brown tones, surrounded by landscape decoration. The matching saucer has a wide gilt border.
