Stunning Antique Royal Worcester Porcelain Plate – Custom Made for J.E. Caldwell & Co., Philadelphia
This piece is magnificent example of late 19th-century English porcelain craftsmanship. This elegant display/cabinet plate was manufactured by the world-renownedRoyal Worcesterfactory in England and custom-commissioned for Philadelphia’s premier Gilded Age luxury jeweler,J.E. Caldwell & Co.
Design & Aesthetic:Crafted during the height of the VictorianAesthetic Movement (Japonism), the face of the plate features an asymmetric floral branch emerging from a traditional footed bronze-style vase. The design beautifully mimics the Japanese Chokin metalwork style, utilizing heavy, textured relief gilding with brilliant gold and silver metallic accents over a textured cream porcelain ground. The plate is finished with a hand-gilded gold rim.
