Wonderful old hand-carved wooden folk art pig or wild boar, carved standing on an integral rectangular base.
The figure has a particularly appealing primitive character, with individually carved facial features, ears, snout, legs and deeply incised hair throughout the body. The carving is somewhat irregular and clearly hand worked, giving the piece a strong folk-art appearance.
The wood is very lightweight, dry and well aged, with an old dark brown surface and natural variations from age and handling. The underside remains unfinished and shows the grain and tool marks of the original block of wood.
Measures approximately 9 inches long, 6 inches high and 2 inches deep.
Estate fresh condition. Shows considerable age with a dry surface, small nicks, scratches, edge wear, discoloration and other typical age wear. There may be small age-related checks or losses within the carving; please examine the photographs closely. No maker’s mark or signature was found.
