This is a magnificent Japanese antique hanging scroll (Kakejiku) elegantly hand-painted with delicate ink and subtle color washes on silk, portraying Mount Fuji at dawn with traditional ships entering the harbor by Edo period Shijo school master Seiki Yokoyama (横山清暉), housed in its wooden storage box.

Condition: There are visible signs of age, including natural surface toning, gentle horizontal creases, and faint antique patina consistent with an authentic Edo-period silk scroll. The delicate brushwork of the snow-capped Mount Fuji, the detailed rigging of the incoming wooden ships, the distant sails, and the coastal pine trees remain vivid, atmospheric, and beautifully preserved. Description: This poetic landscape painting was brushed by Seiki Yokoyama (横山清暉) (1792–1864), an eminent painter of the Kyoto-based Shijo School during the late Edo period. A distinguished pupil of Keibun Matsumura (松村景文), Yokoyama became renowned alongside Raisho Nakajima (中島来章), Renzan Kishi (岸連山), and Bunrin Shiokawa (塩川文麟) as one of the elite \"Four Famous Masters of Heian (Kyoto).\" Highly regarded for his lyrical realism, he executed sliding door paintings for Higashi Honganji temple, served as painter to Prince Soncho of Shoren-in temple, and contributed to the imperial palace decoration during the Ansei era. Titled \"Gyoten Fuyoho Nyusen-zu (暁天芙蓉峰入船図)\" (Mount Fuji at Dawn with Ships Entering Harbor), this artwork portrays the sacred peak of Mount Fuji—classically referred to as Fuyoho—rising with ethereal serenity above soft morning mist, while two traditional merchant ships rest gracefully in the foreground harbor. In Japanese aesthetic tradition and auspicious symbolism, Mount Fuji represents immortality, steadfast nobility, and supreme good fortune, while incoming ships (Nyusen 入船) symbolize the arrival of abundant wealth, thriving commerce, and prosperous blessings. Rendered in refined ink tones and subtle washes on silk, this wide-format hanging scroll creates an aura of timeless majesty and calm prosperity.
