Description
A wonderful, highly tactile piece of late 19th-century Scottish Mauchline Ware sewing ephemera. Designed to resemble a miniature leather-bound book, this delicate needle case features identical, crisp transfer prints of the historic spa town of Bridge of Allan on both the front and back covers.
When opened, the interior reveals its original, beautifully preserved blue fabric flannel leaves used by Victorian crafters to store sewing needles and pins safely. It retains its original brown string designed to wrap around the covers to keep the needle book securely closed.
Condition Report
Overall Condition: Good, clean antique condition with almost completely intact interior preservation.
Transfer Quality: The \"Bridge of Allan\" town scenes and text are beautifully crisp on both sides. One side is in near-mint condition.
Varnish Wear: The front cover features a small, clean nick/loss to the varnish finish in the upper left-hand corner (roughly half the size of a pencil eraser top), exposing the raw sycamore wood underneath. The rest of the wood retains a high-gloss, smooth finish.
Interior & String: The blue fabric inside is mostly intact with a couple of areas along inside of fraying, and a couple of areas of material loss. The original closure string remains strong and attached.
