Antique Japanese Tsuba Ebisu Daikokuten Seven Lucky Gods Signed w/ Kiri Box For Sale

This listing is for an antique Japanese tsuba featuring Ebisu and Daikokuten, two of the Seven Lucky Gods (Shichifukujin).

The design depicts the two deities in an elaborate openwork composition with finely carved details. Ebisu is traditionally associated with prosperity and good fortune and is depicted with a fish, while Daikokuten is associated with wealth, abundance, and good fortune.

The figures are rendered with particularly attractive sculptural detail, including their facial expressions, garments, the fish, and other traditional attributes. The openwork design gives the piece considerable depth and creates a striking appearance when displayed.

Japanese characters are engraved on the reverse around the central opening, including what appears to be a maker\'s signature. Please refer to the detailed photographs for the actual inscription. The signature and attribution have not been independently authenticated.

A traditional wooden kiri (paulownia) storage box is included. An old Japanese paper document found together with the piece is also included. The age, contents, and relationship of the document to the tsuba have not been independently verified and it is therefore offered as an accompanying item.
