Antique Japanese Smoking Set (Tabako-ire) – Leather Pouch, Kiseru, Kiseruzutsu & Kagamibuta Netsuke, Meiji Period
Authentic Japanese tabako-ire (tobacco pouch ensemble) from the Meiji period (late 19th century), comprising the traditional components used for Japanese smoking culture.
The set includes a leather tobacco pouch (tabako-ire) fitted with a silver maekannagu (front clasp) finely engraved with a tiger, an auspicious motif symbolizing strength and protection.
The pouch is suspended by a himo (cord) with a blue glass ojime, and finished with a kagamibuta netsuke serving as the decorative toggle. The kagamibuta features a metal bowl (likely bronze or sentoku-type alloy) with a high-relief dragon design.
Also included is a bamboo kiseru (Japanese tobacco pipe) with metal fittings, housed in its original kiseruzutsu (pipe sleeve).
All elements correspond correctly to period usage, as illustrated in traditional tabako-ire reference diagrams.
The set shows natural patina and wear consistent with age and use, contributing to its authenticity and visual appeal.
