Antique Japanese Meiji Period Ceramic Bottle Vase Oxblood Flambé Glaze

Up for sale is an elegant antique Japanese studio ceramic bottle vase, dating to the Meiji Period (1868–1912). This piece features a classic pear-shaped body tapering into a slender cylindrical neck, heavily inspired by imperial Chinese monochrome porcelains.

Glaze & Form:

The vase boasts a rich, lustrous copper-red glaze with beautiful variations in tone, reminiscent of traditional oxblood (sang de boeuf) and flambé (yohen) styles. The glaze pools beautifully toward the base and runs completely across the bottom of the piece, displaying a wonderful glassy depth and subtle natural crackle under close inspection.

Foot & Condition:

The underside features a prominent, unglazed ring foot showing a fine, pale, gritty ceramic paste characteristic of late 19th-century Japanese studio kilns. The piece is unsigned. It comes out of a dedicated estate collection focused primarily on high-quality Meiji-era decorative arts.
