Antique Italian Solid 10K Gold Salmon Coral Brooch Pin, Edwardian/Early Art Deco For Sale

Authentic Italian/Sicilian broochdating back to the late 19th or early 20th century. This beautifulbrooch belonged to a Sicilian friend’s mother, who was probably born in thelate 1800s.

The brooch shares transitionalfeatures of Edwardian craftsmanship and early Art Deco design:

The clasp is a classic Edwardiansimple \"C-clasp.\"

The lightweight, hand-made frame with symmetricand minimalist geometric designs shows a distinct shift away from ornateVictorian style and toward the cleaner lines of the Art Deco era.

The short pinstem, shorter than the brooch, is characteristic of early 20thcentury pins, designed for the lighter-weight fabrics of the post-Victorian era.

The coral isa perfectly round, polished coral cabochon. Because the coral is natural and undyed,the salmon coloration has some slightly lighter streaks and 2 white naturalspots discreetly set on each side of the gold bezel. Such coral is typical ofthe Sciacca coral harvested off the coast of Sicily in the late 19thcentury.

The cabochon setting is anopen-circle gold bezel with a delicate central support bridge underneath to securethe coral. This shape was favored by-jewelers from Torre del Greco (the capital of Italiancoral work) during this era.

The solid, yellow 10 K gold (testedand verified) is unmarked, which is common for Italian jewelry pieces producedby local artisans prior to the uniform hallmarking laws of 1934.

The brooch is in perfect antique condition,with no sign of wear or scratch on the stone; the pin mechanism worksflawlessly.
