An attractive antique Indian decorative plate featuring elaborate raised metalwork depicting a Hindu deity, possibly Narasimha, accompanied by a smaller figure.
The eight-sided plate features a richly ornamented floral border surrounding a circular central medallion. Silver-colored raised decoration contrasts beautifully with the warm brass-colored body. Fine punched detailing throughout the design adds depth and texture.
The piece is consistent in style with traditional South Indian Tanjore (Thanjavur) mixed-metal work. The exact composition of the silver-colored decoration has not been tested.
Family Provenance
Belonged to my uncle, who served in India and Burma during World War II. The precise date and circumstances of acquisition are Width: 6 9/16 inches
