This item is an antique cast iron fluting iron (also known as a fabric pleater or fabric crimper) manufactured by the Shepard Hardware Company in Buffalo, New York. This is a 4 piece set including the hand roller/fluter, the roller plate, base plate, and heat plate which goes between the two other plates after heated.
This piece dates back to the late 1870s to early 1880s (circa 1878–1880). The bottom of the cast base clearly bears the stamp of the manufacturer, and identical models carry patent dates ranging from November 12, 1878, to January 13, 1880. please view photos for details.
