Antique German Kurrent Handwritten Notebook Else Schneider c1900 36 Pages For Sale

Offered is a fascinating antique German handwritten notebook originally belonging to Else Schneider.

The printed label on the front reads:

“Konto-Buch für Else Schneider”

which translates to “Account Book for Else Schneider.”

Although originally manufactured as an account book, it was instead used extensively as a handwritten literary notebook. The writing is in German, primarily in the old German cursive style known as Kurrent. Collectors also frequently search for this type of old handwriting under the term Sütterlin.

The opening page begins with a reference to children visiting “Tante Fabula” (“Aunt Fabula”), who tells them beautiful and instructive stories. The following pages contain handwritten German stories, verses and moral or instructional material.

The handwriting continues through numbered page 36. Page 37 is blank, followed by additional unused blank pages. The photographs show only selected examples of the handwritten pages; the entire written portion has not been photographed for the listing.

The notebook appears to date approximately from the late 19th to early 20th century / circa 1900, although no exact date has been located in the book.

Condition: Genuine antique used condition with considerable age-related character. The covers show rubbing, cracking, edge wear and surface wear. Interior pages show age toning, occasional spotting/staining and normal wear. The handwriting remains dark and attractive. Please examine all photographs closely for exact condition.
