For your consideration is a monumental antique French sculptural group depicting the Greek myth of Orpheus and Eurydice. Standing at an impressive 24 inches tall, this is a substantial "Grand Tour" style statement piece dating to the Belle Époque era (c. 1890–1915).

The Subject

The sculpture captures the emotional moment of Orpheus (identified by the lyre at his feet) leading his wife Eurydice from the underworld. The figures feature the flowing, romantic drapery characteristic of the Moreau family style popular in Paris at the turn of the century.

• Markings: Stamped with the circular "Fabrication Française, Paris" foundry seal and "Made in France" on the reverse.

• Composition: This is a Cast Spelter (Régule/White Metal) figure, not solid bronze.
