Exceptional late 19th-century Frenchadjustable cast brass fireplace fender in the Louis XVI Revival / Neoclassicalstyle, dating approximately 1870–1890.
An unusually ornate example, composed of threesections with two tall architectural end standards and an adjustable piercedcenter gallery. Each end is surmounted by a classical urn with pendant handlesand an elaborate high-relief bouquet of flowers, fruit and foliage. Additionaldecoration includes fluted columns, scrolling vines, floral and grape motifs,pierced galleries, beaded borders, architectural pedestal bases and abeautifully detailed central crest.
The center section attaches to brackets behindthe two end pieces, allowing the fender to adjust from approximately 251/2" to 38" wide.

• Adjustable overall width: approximately 25 1/2"–38"
• End sections: 11 1/4" H x 7 1/2" W x 3 1/2" D each
• Center section: 24 1/2" L x 4 5/8" H
The reverse retains its old mounting hardwareand one bracket is stamped "161," likely an original model, patternor assembly number.
Very good antique condition with expectedage-related surface wear, oxidation, patina and areas of finish loss. Pleaseexamine photographs closely; the reverse and original hardware are shown indetail.
