This is an old non-electric clothing iron made from heavy iron with a pointed sole and wooden grip. It has a metal handle frame and side latch/locking mechanism.
No manufacturer name, model number, patent date or other identifying markings were found, so it is being sold as an unmarked antique sad iron.
The iron is very heavy for its size, as expected with early iron laundry irons. Sad irons were heated externally and used for pressing clothing before electric irons became common.
Condition is rough and untouched.
The cast iron body has substantial surface rust, oxidation, discoloration, scratches, pitting and general age wear.
The wooden handle has extensive deterioration, cracking and finish loss. There is old wrapping or repair material around portions of the handle.
Metal handle supports and latch hardware also show significant rust and oxidation.
The bottom sole has scratches, oxidation and age wear from use.
No restoration or refinishing has been performed.
Latch/mechanism has not been tested for practical use.
