Original antique steel engraving portrait of Francis Hopkinson (1737–1791), New Jersey lawyer, judge, poet, composer, and Signer of the Declaration of Independence. Hopkinson was one of the most versatile of the Founding Fathers — a federal judge appointed by George Washington, a satirical writer and poet, and an accomplished musician and artist. He was one of the 56 signatories of the Declaration on behalf of New Jersey in 1776. He also submitted a documented claim to have designed the first American flag. Engraved by James Barton Longacre (1794–1869) after the original portrait by Charles Willson Peale, in the possession of Joseph Hopkinson, Esq. (Francis\'s son). Includes facsimile signature Fra.
